In the U.S. after the attack of Pearl Harbor, there was an explosion of Propaganda for WWII. Most of it was derived from racism towards the Japanese. Posters were put up virtually everywhere. They encouraged the citizens to conserve resources and increase labor production to benefit the soldiers at war. The American citizens were furious about how the Japanese thought they could get away with the attack on Pearl Harbor. A sense of extreme nationalism emerged. Many slogans were made to get Americans excited for the War. For example, a slogan was made by Admiral William Haisley saying “Kill Japs, Kill Japs, Kill More Japs”. Also, his motto was “Remember Pearl Harbor-Keep ‘em dying”. National pride and propaganda started to also show in movies, music, and the radio. These various methods of spreading propaganda was effective and it got many more Americans to voluntarily join the war. Most propaganda showed hatred against the Japanese. One poster showed a Japanese man carrying a naked American lady on his back. It said “would you let this happen?”. Another poster showed a group of scholars examining a Japanese person. This showed that American culture is more sophisticated than the Japanese. One poster showed a gun with a label of “civilization” pointed to a monkey; which represented the Japanese. It showed that the Japanese are not civilized. People started to call the Japanese “yellow monkeys” and “yellow bastards”. This campaign by the U.S. started racism towards Japanese and Asians as a whole.
